Society & Politics

  • Report shows abortion hits women’s mental health: A new review from the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child highlights the many ways in which abortion can negatively impact women, as well as the unborn child. Read more here. This comes as MPs are found to support a ban on pro-life protests directly outside of abortion clinics.
  • Trans activists speak out against Government plans for re-definition: Transsexual activists have joined a growing chorus of criticism of plans being pushed by Justine Greening to liberalise the laws around gender identification. Read more here.
  • 70-year old Jewish woman assaulted in Stamford Hill: The lady has been left hospitalised after a male attacker smashed her head into a brick wall while shouting “Zyd”, the Polish word for ‘Jew’. Read more here. Meanwhile, a Jewish family in Paris were saved by their dog when their house was deliberately set on fire, in a suspected anti-Semitic attack.

  • BBC criticised for ‘culture of sniggering contempt’ about faith: Rev Giles Fraser has roundly criticised the BBC in The Guardian after John Humphrys made derisive remarks about the ‘Thought for the Day’ programme. Read more here.
  • Thousands celebrate Balfour at Royal Albert Hall: Over 3,000 Christians gathered at the iconic venue in a moving celebration to mark the centenary of the Balfour Declaration with music, drama and dance. Read more and see pictures here.

  • Lebanese PM resigns and flees to Saudi Arabia: Fearing his own assassination, Saad Hariri has abdicated his position in a shock move that leaves Lebanon extremely vulnerable. Nationals from Saudi, Kuwait and Bahrain have all been ordered to leave the ailing country. But what parts are Iran, Saudi and Israel playing in all this? Read more here and here.
  • Netanyahu fills in as tour guide for 3 millionth tourist: The Israeli Prime Minister surprised Romanian Iona Isac with a tour around the Tower of David Museum in Jerusalem. Watch here.
  • Last ISIS stronghold captured: The Syrian army has captured Albu Kamal, ISIS’s last urban centre in the region. Read more here.
