Society & Politics

  • Numerous revelations of Corbyn’s terrorist links: As well as CUFI exposing the truth about Corbyn’s infamous wreath-laying, evidence has also surfaced this week of his presence at conferences with Hamas terrorists and other extremists (here and here), of him making the four-fingered Muslim Brotherhood salute and of him praising the release of 1,000 Hamas ‘brothers’ imprisoned for terrorist attacks that killed 600. The Labour leader is facing fresh investigation over a string of undeclared overseas trips, including to Tunisia and the West Bank. Hamas has tweeted that it ‘salutes’ Corbyn.
  • BMA proposes to allow doctors to lawfully kill dementia patients: After a recent court ruling allowing doctors to remove food and water from patients who are minimally conscious with family agreement, the British Medical Association is proposing to roll this out to patients with conditions such as dementia who could live for years.   • Christians in Politics urge believers to engage: The charity will be touring the country later this year encouraging Christians to get involved in the public realm and channel their passion for change into action. Read more here.

Church Issues

  • Cathedral in X-rated film row: Derby Cathedral is under fire after agreeing to screen a number of graphic and grossly offensive films through September and October. Read more here and here.
  • US Bishop forced to apologise over IDF comments: The Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts has apologised after Bishop Gayle Harris spread false atrocity stories about the IDF to the denomination’s July convention. Read more here.
  • Life charity takes local council to court: After being evicted from a country show in July, the pro-life charity is taking legal action against Lambeth Council, seeking a public apology, compensation and a guarantee of free speech in future. Read more here.

World Scene

  • Devastating floods in India: 860,000 have been displaced and at least 350 have died in floods in Kerala, India. Humanitarian help has been arriving from all over the world, including from Israel and the Jewish diaspora. Both the Barnabas Fund and Samaritan’s Purse have launched appeals for aid, with the Barnabas Fund focusing particularly on Kerala’s substantial Christian community.
  • Two evangelical ministers in Paraguay’s new government: Two members of Mario Benítez’s new cabinet are well-respected evangelical believers known for their integrity. Read more here.
  • Germany approves official third gender option: German birth certificates will now allow people to opt for ‘diverse’ instead of just ‘male’ or ‘female’. Read more here. Meanwhile, in the UK the charity Age UK has released guidance promoting gender reassignment to OAPs.
  • Hundreds of babies left to die in Canada: 766 babies born alive after late-term abortion procedures 2013-2018 were presumably left to die, though no official data about their fates has been kept. The Conservative Party of Canada is meeting this week and may consider changing its position so that children born alive receive life-saving care. Read more here.

Israel & Middle East

  • Trump to unveil peace ‘agenda’ on 25 September: After promising Palestinians a ‘gift’ earlier this week to compensate for the US embassy move, it seems that a ‘partial outline’ of the long-awaited peace plan will be unveiled at the UN General Assembly in late September. Read more here. There is still no official timetable for the release of the full plan. Meanwhile, Hamas has vowed that it will not disarm or pay any ‘political price’ as part of a deal.
