  • Christian Legal Centre faces allegations over Alfie Evans case: The legal wing of Christian Concern could face investigation over advice given to the Evans family. Read more here and read CLC’s statement here.
  • Universities minister wants to protect free speech: Sam Gmiyah has called on higher education institutions to stamp out “institutional hostility” to unfashionable views on UK campuses, saying that it is time for a “new chapter” of greater speech freedoms. Read more here.
  • Norfolk head-teachers back multi-faith ‘tolerance’ education: A survey of county heads shows the majority back an evolved form of religious education covering more religions and focusing on tolerance and anti-extremism messages. Read more here.

World Scene

  • Ex-gay pride march in Washington: The first of its kind, the ‘Freedom March’ this weekend (5 May) of ex-LGBT Christians will proclaim the freedom brought by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Read more here.
  • Iceland drops anti-circumcision bill: After international outcry, Iceland has dismissed a bill proposing to illegalise circumcision. However, one rabbi has warned to expect similar proposals elsewhere in Europe in future. Read more here.
  • Anti-conversion bill passed in India: Uttarakhand becomes the seventh state in India to bring such legislation into force, punishing ‘forced conversions’ with prison terms and making any conversion illegal without state permission. It is seen as a further attempt by the Hindu majority to persecute Christians. Read more here.
  • Israeli flags torn down and spat on, Germany: As a press experiment, a number of Israeli flags were hung in public in different locations – they lasted for between 42 and 81 minutes before being taken down. Read more and watch the video here.

Israel & Middle East

  • European delegations to examine Iran nuclear archive: Israeli PM Netanyahu has invited international representatives to examine the evidence obtained by Mossad of Iran’s underhand nuclear activity.   • Abbas blasted for anti-Semitic remarks: Speaking in Ramallah on Monday, the PA President resorted to age-old anti-Semitic tropes of money-grabbing Jews in order to blame Jews for the Holocaust. He has received universal condemnation for the remarks. Read more here. At the time of writing, he has since apologised, though Israel has rejected the apology.
  • Nationality law passes first Knesset reading: The bill would enshrine the Israeli state’s Jewishness into law, affirming its symbols, holidays, language and Jerusalem as its capital. Read more here.
  • Guatemala opens Jerusalem embassy: The South American nation becomes the first to relocate its Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, opening the doors of the new offices on Tuesday. Read more here.
