So Liz Truss has been forced to resign as Prime Minister. This is not the first time that a newly elected Conservative Prime Minister has been turned upon by the ruling Conservative Party.
Reflections on the past
It happened to none other than Winston Churchill in May 1940. It was indeed the darkest hour as the British Army faced annihilation on the shores of Dunkirk. Had Churchill not survived in office, in all probability we would have surrendered to Hitler and the United Kingdom would have become nothing more than a vassal state ruled by the Third Reich with the swastika flying over Victoria Tower and Buckingham Palace. What could have happened to Britain’s Jewish community is unthinkable.
Back in August 2011 the late Lance Lambert was given a prophetic word which reflected the heart of God towards our beloved island nation, and what would happen if we did not repent. There is no doubt that we are seeing this prophecy coming to pass. It is not that the Lord desires us to become a ‘third world’ nation, but He does want us to turn back to Him. There will be dire consequences if we do not heed His warning. This is the message that Clifford Hill, PT’s founding Editor-in-chief, has been conveying for decades.
Standing alongside Israel
Many of us who prayed for Brexit were not praying for Britain to become an independent economic superpower; rather we were praying that God would once again use us to propagate the gospel across the world, free from the shackles of the European Union. Moreover, many of us were praying that we would be free from EU policy so that Britain could return to her ‘Cyrus call’ to stand alongside Israel – God’s ancient covenant people – to be used by Him to restore Israel to her historic homeland.
Britain's betrayal of fulfilling God’s purposes for Israel has brought about His displeasure and judgement.
Shamefully, we betrayed that Divine calling, which resulted in the slaughter of an untold number of Jews who were trapped in Nazi-occupied Europe, not to mention the undermining of the legitimacy of Israel’s domicile in her historic heartland – which continues to this day. While our betrayal of fulfilling God’s purposes for Israel has brought about His displeasure and judgement, we know that this is by no means the only issue.
Unseen spiritual forces?
Today the economy is the god that is worshipped by our politicians, big business and the media. We all know what the Lord Jesus had to say about worshipping mammon. Liz Truss was elected Prime Minister because of her promise of bringing about economic growth through tax cuts funded on the ‘never-never’. I am not an economist, so I am not going to comment on this policy further, other than to say it has been a PR disaster. However, could there have been unseen spiritual forces that had every bit as much of an influence as the political forces? That was certainly the case in Churchill’s day.
It is interesting that the very last official duty of Queen Elizabeth’s long 70-year reign was her appointment of Liz Truss as Prime Minister. In life Her late Majesty was a true disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in death she became an evangelist. Her state funeral, which was rich with her personal testimony and the Word of God, was uncompromisingly broadcast to an estimated 1 billion plus people around the world. As I recall, Liz Truss read from the beginning of John chapter 14 which included the words of our Lord Jesus: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No-one comes to the Father except through Me.”
In life Her late Majesty was a true disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in death she became an evangelist.
Out of control economy
Whether or not she understood the words she was reading in the same way that the Queen understood them, nobody knows except the Lord Himself. But one thing she did understand was the importance of British sovereignty over the islands we inhabit. Following the ‘mini-budget’ a few days after the late Queen was laid to rest, all hell broke loose – and I use those words deliberately.
The pound crashed, the markets went berserk and interest rates soared. Quite simply the Prime Minister and the then Chancellor lost control of the economy. It was almost as if the covering of our godly Monarch had disappeared and the spiritual forces of darkness were unleashed against the United Kingdom. But one needs to understand that ‘the markets’ and organisations like the International Monetary Fund – et al – are all globalist in nature and they don’t like a truly conservative Prime Minister at the helm of the United Kingdom that is opposed to globalism.
Was it simply the markets' reaction to a disastrous Budget? Could it be pay-back for Brexit? Could it be spiritual opposition to the government’s policy to rein back on the promotion of the woke agenda in the Civil Service and so many other government agencies, including the NHS? Or could it also be God’s judgement on the raft of ungodly legislation the Conservative government has enacted over the last 12 years?
British embassy in Jerusalem
Among the many things that Liz Truss said she would do if she became Prime Minister was to consider moving the British Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Apart from infuriating the spiritual powers of darkness, this, of course, would be vehemently opposed by the Foreign Office, whose Arabist policy has long been that the historic Jewish capital (i.e. the Old City of Jerusalem) should be the capital of a ‘Palestinian state’.

Instead, this would entail the ‘City of the Great King’ (viz. the Lord Jesus Himself – Matt 5:35) becoming the ‘Juden-rein’ capital of an Islamic entity. In reality, this echoes Adolf Hitler’s intent towards the Jews – one only has to look at what the Palestinian Authority teaches their children in order to understand that. Most alarmingly, both the Archbishops of Westminster and Canterbury have denounced the Prime Minister’s intention. In doing so they deny what the Bible has to say about the status of Jerusalem.
Returning God’s blessing to Britain
Many would say that the Prime Minister’s policy regarding Jerusalem was a side issue in the current circumstances. On the contrary, it is a spiritual issue that could have had a huge impact on the destiny of our nation. The spiritual forces of darkness are wanting to destroy our nation just as they did in the darkest hour of 1940. Humbling ourselves in repentance of our betrayal of fulfilling the Lord’s purposes for the restoration of Israel – which will culminate in the return of the Great King to reign from the restored throne of David in Jerusalem – would surely afford significant resistance to this.
The changing of our government’s attitude to the City of the Great King would have brought God’s blessing back to our nation, at least in measure (Gen 12:3), and I wonder if it could have led to the Lord pouring out a spirit of repentance over other issues. I would be surprised if the Prime Minister realised any of this, but recognising Israel’s sovereignty over Jerusalem by moving our embassy there would have been an important start.
Recognising Israel’s sovereignty over Jerusalem by moving our embassy there would have been an important start.
Historic precedent
The ironic fact of history is that Great Britain was the first European nation to ever establish a diplomatic mission in the historic land of Israel. In 1839 the British government sent Consul William Tanner Young to Jerusalem with the mission to offer protection to the Jewish minority who had ‘Dhimmie status’ in the ruling Turkish Ottoman Empire. Young was succeeded by Consul James Finn who established the British Consulate at Christ Church inside the Jaffa Gate. At that time the entire population of Jerusalem lived within the city walls, and Jews were the largest ethnic/religious group living there. By the mid-1860s they made up the majority of Jerusalem’s population. So there is a historic precedent for moving the British Embassy to Jerusalem, as well as a spiritual one.
In 1948 the Old City of Jerusalem was ethnically cleansed of its Jewish population by the invading Jordanians. The commander-in-chief of the Jordanian army was a serving British Army General, Sir John Bagot Glubb. The Palestinian claim to Jerusalem as its capital has no basis in history, and is entirely fraudulent. It is time that the Church establishment and our government stopped promoting a lie. I think Prime Minister Liz Truss would have liked to have done that.
The opportunity now seems lost – especially if a Labour government comes to power.
