The issue of adult vaccination against Covid-19 has been hugely divisive. This is as true amongst the Christian community as in mainstream society. People have made their own decisions on the subject and many hold strong views, but to what extent have these difficult decisions been influenced by external pressure?

We have heard many stories like these: “Our daughter won’t let me visit the grandchildren unless we’re jabbed.” “I need a holiday and it’ll be so much easier to travel if I’m double-jabbed.” “My boss says, if I’m not vaccinated I’ll be fired and I can’t afford to lose my job”.

Fear and censorship

‘Project Fear’ around the Brexit issue has been totally eclipsed by our government’s response to Covid-19. It could be argued that they have weaponised our fear against us – albeit supposedly in our best interests. Over 20 months, we have become one of the most frightened countries in the world.

In addition, media censorship has meant the public has received a very one-sided narrative. Suspension and cancellation of accounts by YouTube with appalling restrictions enforced by Google and Facebook have from very early on in the pandemic been part of a relentless, one-sided propaganda campaign¹. The one-sided narrative – and the resulting disinformation mixed with very real concerns on the internet – has made it harder to weigh up risk, and to discern the truth, which, as Proverbs 18:15 advises us, is wise: “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.” For that reason, here follows a consideration of some of the information that the mainstream narrative omits or sidelines, with relevant reliable links provided.

Experimental vaccines

The Pfizer BioNtech product was given an emergency temporary licence here in the UK, and will remain in clinical trial until May 2nd 2023². The Astra Zeneca study ends on February 14th 2023. Vaccine development is a long, complex process involving a combination of public and private involvement (albeit including lengthy grant application and other red-tape measures). These emergency-use products have been developed in a matter of months.³

The UK government has demonstrably bypassed the normal safety controls contained in the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, both to authorise the use of these products without the normal licence which would follow full clinical trials and to prohibit us from suing their manufacturers if we are harmed by any currently unknown side-effect.⁴

Human rights and coercion

The choice became to accept experimental vaccines whose long-term effects are still unknown or risk exclusion from mainstream society with our freedom to work, travel and engage in normal life severely limited. The concept of informed consent for medical products and procedures, a cornerstone of our human rights and freedoms, has been ignored during the vaccine rollout. Our government has, in mandating the vaccines in certain employment sectors, encouraged what is arguably unlawful coercion by employers. The prevailing message has been ‘no jab, no job’.

The direction of travel is towards wider use of vaccine passports, which we are already seeing in many places, with the threat of an apartheid society for those who will not comply, and with our employment status and perhaps in time our ability to buy and sell, dictated by an ever more repressive and controlling State (as in Rev 13:16-17).

The official line on vaccines is that they are ‘safe and effective’ and that protection through prior natural infection will not be sufficient for any proposed Covid passes. Yet the Office for National Statistics states that “Pfizer/BioNTech and Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines remain at least as effective as protection from prior natural infection against the Delta variant”. In other words, previous infection with Covid-19 does create a robust natural immunity⁵. In any case, vaccination does not prevent either infection or transmission – it only reduces it (thus diminishing the value of vaccine passports).

We cannot be required by law to undergo any form of medical treatment, including vaccination.⁶
Any form of force or coercion to accept experimental drugs or medical treatments is still illegal under UK laws and long-established international conventions.⁷ The voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential.

Adverse reactions

There is no question that for the vast majority of the population who have been vaccinated, there have been no apparent major adverse effects. Many would go further, saying that in general (particularly for the over-50s), the risks of the disease are much higher than the risks of the vaccines.

Nevertheless, many people have suffered negative reactions after taking the vaccines. Adverse effects in the UK, reported by the official ‘Yellow Card’ ADR scheme on the two main vaccines, currently stands at a staggering 1,166,162 reactions and 1,649 deaths as of 29th September 2021.^{8Yellow card logo}

Following use of the Astra Zeneca product there have been 9,474 reported cardiac disorders, 79,092 gastrointestinal disorders, 176,644 nervous system disorders, 18,593 reproductive and breast disorders, 28,009 respiratory disorders, and 14,044 eye disorders. (Not all will be directly caused by this – some will be unrelated.) A detailed analysis of the Pfizer BioNtech and Astra Zeneca reports reveals that many of these are not the typical mild reactions typically experienced following a routine flu jab – such as headache and muscle pain. Significantly, official estimates in 2019 suggest that only 10% of serious reactions are normally reported through the Yellow Card scheme, so this number will be an under-estimate.⁹

The World Health Organisation states that scientists are “constantly monitoring information from several sources for any sign that a vaccine may cause health risks”.¹⁰ Historically such trials would be halted after any unexpected death in a study group. There have been serious concerns for more than a year.¹¹

Vaccinating children

A recent report makes it clear that increases in Covid‑19 cases are unrelated to levels of vaccination across 68 countries and 2,947 counties in the United States.¹² Yet, our own government continues to relentlessly pursue a policy of vaccinating younger and younger members of our society and providing booster shots for those already double-jabbed.¹³

Our government is mandating the injection of novel vaccines in an age group which has a statistically insignificant risk of mortality from this disease. The latest NHS England data shows that only 12 children and young people under the age of 20 who were not previously ill have died with Covid-19 over two winters.¹⁴ Never before have we allowed our children to be used as a shield to protect the adult population.

We believe that, for as long as the long-term health risks of the Covid-19 vaccine remain unknown, the vaccination of healthy children, for whom Covid-19 represents no statistically significant risk, is a matter of the gravest concern for parents. The JCVI were unable to recommend it on health grounds for this reason. The undermining of parental consent (due to so-called Gillick competence) is unethical, potentially illegal due to possible coercion by peer pressure, and undermines the rights of parents, causing division within families.¹⁵

This article questions some of the narrative that we are told. Yet, as we seek understanding, let us always remember that, as James 3:17 says, “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”
