God’s truth is not a fantasy. It is the truth found in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Almighty living God. It is the Gospel of the Kingdom, where Jesus is “the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6). Jesus, and his apostles and the prophets have spoken clearly about the time of the end… the time of the second coming of the King. We must be blind if we cannot see in the events of today, the nearness of the day when Jesus will return.
During 2020, we have watched the intensifying of trouble beyond anything that we had yet seen, but now we have an illustration of the almost incredible rapidity in which trouble can develop. Bibles and churches were being burned during the riots and anarchy in America. This lawlessness and rebellion is an attack on Christian faith and is part of a world-wide movement against the Lord of lords, Jesus Christ. Over the last year we have seen some scary similarities to the beginnings of the French Revolution, to Bolshevism, and to Nazism.
Reichstag moment
America experienced a Reichstag moment on January 6th 2021, when instigators and trouble makers led the break-in of the Capitol building. It was reminiscent of the arson attack on the German parliament in Berlin, on February 27, 1933. It happened exactly four weeks after Adolph Hitler was sworn in as the Chancellor of Germany. After Van der Lubbe, a Dutch communist, was arrested for arson; Hitler, Hermann Göring, and Joseph Goebbels spread the message that the communists were conspiring to overthrow the Weimar Republic, and used the ensuing panic to imprison political rivals.
The day after the fire, Hitler and the Nazis used the event to secure President Hindenburg’s signature for the “Emergency Decree for Protection of the German People”, which stripped citizens of their rights to free speech, freedom of association, and due process in arrests and incarceration, while expanding the power of central government to overrule local laws.
Deception, propaganda, censorship and fear are continuing to increase exponentially and we have entered a time of great uncertainty.
The storming of the Capitol has not led directly to the same degree of assertion of power. Nonetheless, deception, propaganda, censorship and fear are continuing to increase exponentially and we have entered a time of great uncertainty. “Give us Barabbas!” not Jesus, is today’s scream of the children of Antichrist. Their hearts and minds are blinded to reason and common sense because “they have changed the truth of God into a lie” (Rom 1:25). God is sending them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie (2 Th 2:11). Truth has become a lie and lies are the truth.
False narratives
The liars and enemies of Christ today are operating as corrupt regimes do. How else can you explain unrestrained Big Tech, leading the way in social media propaganda and unprecedented censorship, yielding a large scale perversion of news reporting? Access to accurate reporting is increasingly thwarted by heavily biased news outlets’ insistence on skewing stories to fit the Leftist narrative.
They are suppressing those that do not support their political aims by de-platforming dissenters and opposing parties, or anyone guilty of expressing ideas contrary to the politically correct narrative. This also means anyone who believes the gospel and fears God rather than man. This evil is greatly compounded when apostate and misled Church leaders give their support to the false narratives of the abortion lobby, Antifa, BLM and a myriad of socialist causes, as if they were Christian values and virtues. Could it be the great False Prophet forming who will support the Great Antichrist?
The World Economic Forum has called for a ‘Great Reset’ to fix all the world’s problems. Of course, their plans do not include a Christian world view of God’s laws. Wake up, brethren, “evil men and seducers are waxing worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived” (2 Tim 3:13). It is not hard to believe how close the final Great Antichrist could be. “Little children, it is the last time: and as you have heard that Antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists, whereby we know that it is the last time” (1 John 2:18).
America and the nations could be on the cliff’s edge of the Great Tribulation. It is not absurd to believe Daniel’s prediction of the awful time of trouble coming, “There shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation even to that time” (Dan 12:1). God will not tolerate the rebellion of man against himself.
The Lord Is merciful
Nevertheless, all is not lost! Jesus Christ is the saviour and sovereign king and he will return soon, maybe very soon. Who is prepared? Christ’s covenant promises for his victorious Church will be fulfilled. He sees the raging seas of humanity throughout the world. He is not fearful or surprised, but he is saddened over the rebellion of his people called by his name. Is not the real cause of the morass and deception due to our departure from the Lord Jesus Christ? The truth is, we who claim to be the faithful and true Church are a backslidden people. In judgement, O Lord, remember mercy.
Need for repentance
One of the greatest prayers of repentance for a people who have left God is found in Daniel 9. In his confession we see a heart that is broken for all the people of God. He sees their departure from God as his own. Yet, Daniel was one of the most faithful of all Israel, suffering for their corporate sins. He had every reason to think he was faithful and had no guilt to confess. Nevertheless, Daniel understood that the sins of Israel were his sins. In fact, he prayed as if he was the guiltiest of all his people.
Oh Lord, “We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments” (Dan 9:5).
There is no hope without repentance. It was true for the Jewish people and it is clear for Christians today. Jesus is faithful to all his promises. The gates of hell will never succeed in destroying his Bride (Mt 16:18). The predicted time of woe and great judgment is on the near horizon. “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be” (Mt 24:21). At the sign of terrible judgments, Jeremiah’s heart sent forth sighs and prayers of lamentation, weeping over the ruins of Jerusalem (Jer 9:1). As with Daniel, Jeremiah knew he was guilty collectively with God’s people.
Faith, hope & love
For those who enter into true repentance, there is faith, hope, and love to sustain and encourage us in our battle that is the Lord’s. There is no other way to live victoriously in the growing fear and deception of these final days of the Church age. Many are rightfully calling for prayer around the world, but without real confession of our sin, there can be no remedy for our backslidden condition.
Now is the time for us who fear the Lord to humble ourselves, that we may be ready to see Jesus as he is, and to be his laborers and witnesses today.
The Almighty One God: the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, is patient and faithful to us who are called by his name. The King of Kings is shortening the time for the sake of his elect and for his holy name’s sake (Mt 24:21-22). Wherever true repentance is found, Jesus is raising his mighty standard of righteousness in the truth of the gospel. Now is the time for us who fear the Lord to humble ourselves, that we may be ready to see Jesus as he is, and to be his labourers and witnesses today (Is 59:19).
God’s righteous judgments will increase exponentially in severity. They are not a reason for hopelessness, but for repentance in preparation of the soon appearing of the great God and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. They point to the greatest revival and harvest of souls and, “the kingdom of this world will become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever” (Rev 11:15). This is the joyful and blessed hope of Christian faith we have forgotten. It is the happy and blessed hope that purifies us, just as he is pure (1 John 3:2-3). Even so, come today Lord Jesus!
