Mark of the Beast?

‘Straight’ staff at the BBC will be isolated by new recommendations

While still rejoicing over news of the Ashers Bakery victory upholding the right of Christians to express their views, it is clear that the battle is far from over.

I’m talking about the all-out attack on our Judeo-Christian heritage, especially from the mainstream media.

The ink had barely dried on newsprint coverage of this Supreme Court ruling when we heard of the BBC’s latest quite insane insistence on political correctness.

They are reported to be encouraging ‘straight’ staff to wear badges indicating their support for LGBTQ+ colleagues, representing 11% of their workforce.1 The move is an attempt by our national broadcaster to tackle what it calls ‘heteronormative culture’ in which being straight is the norm.

Discriminating Against Conscience

Not content with their relentless pushing of the gay agenda through drama and other avenues over the past many years, they are now digging deeper into yet more sinister territory.

This will ensure that those whose consciences will not allow them to back a gay lifestyle will be discriminated against with at least as much force as homosexuals have been marginalised in the past.

Once newscasters and presenters begin sporting pro-gay badges on camera, others within the corporation will inevitably be made to feel uncomfortable for not wearing them. Will they capitulate to save their jobs or their chances of promotion? The world is watching those within the BBC who are known to be Christians. Do pray for them; that they will have the courage to stand up for what is right.

Forced to Bow

I believe we are witnessing another alarming step towards the apocalyptic scenario depicted in the Bible’s book of Revelation in which everyone is forced to take 'the mark of the Beast' without which they will not be able to buy or sell (Rev 13:16f).2 In other words, bow down to the demands of a tyrannical regime (as the early Christians were forced to do in Rome), or starve to death.

What chance do believers stand in such an atmosphere? I do not for a minute believe they will be dealt with even-handedly over prospects of promotion or recognition should they refuse to succumb to corporate pressure by wearing a ‘straight allies’ pin badge or signing with a supportive email signature.

Dedicated to Almighty God?

How on earth has it come to this – that a once national treasure to which we all pay licence fees and which was founded on biblical principles of decency should be so brazenly conniving with activists bent on destroying the family?

Unveiled in 1931 by its first Director-General Lord Reith, the Latin inscription in the hallway of the corporation’s Old Broadcasting House is “dedicated to Almighty God” for the broadcast of “whatsoever things are lovely and honest, whatsoever things are of good report” (cf. Phil 4:8).3

It was the LGBT-influenced anti-marriage lobby that, 20 years ago, prevented the passing of legislation to strengthen marriage after Home Secretary Jack Straw promised a White Paper on the issue. It had followed research which found, for example, that 98% of children involved in youth crime came from broken homes.4

Further research revealed that the cost of family breakdown was estimated in the year 2000 to be £15 billion, projected to £40 billion by 2015. And when, at the same time, an amendment to an Education Bill was drafted – to the effect that, in the context of sex education, pupils should be taught that marriage was the ideal form of family life – nine bishops voted against it! It would have been carried otherwise. So Dr Clifford Hill, in his new book The Reshaping of Britain, comes to the shocking conclusion: “The Church colluded with the State to destroy marriage and family in Britain.”5

For all the BBC’s initial noble aspirations, they have sadly since succumbed to persistent pressure from strident homosexuals, as a result of which they have gone overboard in their efforts to sink traditional moral values.

Confusion Reigns

In defending their motivations, Director of Radio & Education James Purnell said they were responding to the challenge of young audiences, quoting a recent YouGov survey that found only 51% of 18-24 year olds identified as completely heterosexual.6

That’s because they’re so confused by the messages the BBC and others are giving out. And of course they are also intimidated by the pressure to conform to the ‘new normal’.

I know of a school where a Christian boy was left feeling isolated and humiliated when his class were asked to indicate (by raising their hands) whether they were ‘gay friendly’.

And with Dr Clifford Hill’s challenging piece on suicide last week in mind, I see that LGBT children are five times more likely to try to kill themselves than other children, according to latest figures quoted by psychiatrist Dr Max Pemberton, himself gay, who cites bullying among the causes.7

In the midst of all this confusion, it doesn’t help when the Bishop of Gloucester, Rachel Treweek, wants the Church to stop referring to God constantly as ‘he’ because it could ‘alienate’ people.8

What About Christians?

Karen Millington and Matt Weaver, chairmen of Pride at the BBC, said of the new call for staff support of their cause: “We hope this makes everyone feel included whether genderqueer, bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender, non-binary, pansexual, intersex, asexual, queer, questioning or an ally.”9 My question is: What about Christians?

I am left wondering whether I am living in the real world. Or is this all a bad dream? Perhaps it’s fake news? I wish it was.
