With Israel being the focus of God’s purposes among the nations, particularly in these days following the re-gathering of Jews to their ancient land, a special exhibition room has been launched in Rochester, Kent.
Focused entirely on Israel, the display is located at The Cedars, a Victorian property a mile from the town centre which is now a school incorporating a study and prayer centre. Set aside for the purpose of reflection, and adjacent to the main prayer room in what was once a coach house, the exhibition welcomes you with the Bible verse, “If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill” (Ps 137:5).
Along with information posted on display boards, there are a range of artefacts collected over many trips to Israel by centre director Clifford Denton, a Hebraic teacher and author well-known to Prophecy Today UK readers.
Asked to explain the thinking behind the project, he said it was “because God’s covenant with Israel is foundational to how we understand the scriptures and how we pray, especially in these times of fulfilment.”
One could spend months in this little room, following a theme, looking up facts, meditating on fulfilled prophecies, considering testimonies and opinions, and turning the entire matter to prayer.
Visitors can listen to music ranging from modern Messianic worship to deeply moving pieces such as Max Bruch’s 'Kol Nidrei'. There are also a range of videos and DVDs recounting the joy of the reborn nation to their battles for survival along with films like 'Fiddler on the Roof', casting a humorous light on the serious history of exile, and the miracle of survival typified in the true story of 'The Pianist'.
Also on view are archive extracts from official Israeli Government papers and original footage featuring the first Zionist Conference in 1897, the Balfour Declaration of 1917 and Ben Gurion’s Declaration of Independence in 1948, with further features relating to the establishment of the nation through dedicated settlers.
Here and there are photos of modern Israel, backed up by maps and charts, alongside a history of Messianic Judaism and the prayer that underpinned the nation’s survival through the war years.
Also on display are a wide range of books on subjects including the rise of anti-Semitism and the history of Jerusalem as well as the Hebraic background to Scripture and Church history in relation to Israel.
Clifford says: “One could spend months in this little room, following a theme, looking up facts on a timeline, meditating on fulfilled prophecies, considering testimonies and opinions about Israel, and turning the entire matter to prayer, which is the chief purpose of the display.”
The exhibition can be accessed by all those who visit The Cedars for prayer and study retreats and events. For more information, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
