Living in Babylon (announcement)

09 Apr 2020 Resources

A special offer during this time of lockdown

In the sixth century BC, ancient Israel was taken into exile to pagan Babylon (in modern-day Iraq). God’s people had to find new ways of keeping their faith alive in the midst of an unbelieving, idolatrous nation.

There are many indications that Bible-believing Christians today are living in a kind of Babylon. But how much do we really know about Babylon?

In the Book of Revelation, Babylon is used as a symbol of the worldwide Anti-Christ system and represents everything that is opposed to the reign of God.

But in the Old Testament, Babylon was a real place where the Jews lived for many years after the fall of Jerusalem in 597 BC. There is very little recorded in the Bible about those years but Dr Clifford and Monica Hill have written a well-researched book that brings the exile alive and answers many hitherto unanswered questions – such as why did Jeremiah instruct the slaves who sat weeping beside the rivers of Babylon (Ps 137) to build houses (Jer 29:5)?

The book ‘Living in Babylon’, published by Hansel Press, Edinburgh, reveals a deal between Nebuchadnezzar and the exiles that gave them land for their settlements. The book also unpacks the lifestyles of those who were living faithfully under oppression in Babylon.

Clifford and Monica have also written a workbook, ‘Living Victoriously in Babylon’, published by Issachar Ministries, showing how Christians in the early Church living under the Roman Empire benefited from what the Babylonian exiles had learned. The final section of each chapter applies that to what’s happening today.

We have been encouraged by many readers who have already bought copies of these two books and are using this time of self-isolation to study them more deeply. We are now working to make them both available digitally because during this present crisis, posting parcels from our office is no longer possible.

Although their cover price is £12 each, we will be making the digital versions available to download for a special nominal charge of £5 for the two. Please email This email address is being protected from spambots. We will be following this with a new series on Prophecy Today UK based on these books, starting after Easter. Our hope is that it will help and guide readers as we step out into a future which has been changed forever by recent events, in the same way as the exiles had to face their own radically transformed future.
