Society & Politics

  • London Kristallnacht vigil dispersed by Muslim anti-Semites: A peaceful vigil remembering Jewish persecution at Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park this week ended in disarray as about 20 men disrupted the proceedings with Arabic shouts about killing Jews. Read more here. This comes alongside news that Israeli, American, French and English flags were burned during an Anonymous ‘Million Mask March’ in London on Monday.
  • Labour branch rejects motion condemning Pittsburgh shooting: A local branch of the Labour Party has voted down a motion to condemn the synagogue shooting and all forms of anti-Semitism. Read more here. This comes as police open a probe into Party anti-Semitism claims.
  • Locked-in teenager recovers: In a blow to those advocating assisted suicide, a girl who was left with ‘locked-in syndrome’ after a brain bleed is now able to eat, walk and talk. Her mother had previously been asked if she would agree to her daughter’s life support system being turned off. Read more here.

  • Asia Bibi released from prison: The Christian woman who was on death row in Pakistan for ‘blasphemy’ has finally been released following global campaigning and prayer, but her safety remains a grave concern. Reports suggest she has been taken out of the country but the Government denies this. Read more here.
  • North Koreans risking death to read Scripture: A Christian aid-worker has highlighted the plight of believers in the Communist dictatorship and the lengths they will go to in order to access the Word of God. Read more here.

World Scene

  • Macron calls for ‘true European army’: As part of a radio interview, the French President called again for an EU military to defend “in a more sovereign manner” against, amongst others, China, Russia and the USA. Read more here.
  • French anti-Semitism up 69%: 80 years after Kristallnacht, anti-Semitic acts in France have risen enormously in the first 9 months of 2018. Read more here. This news comes as President Macron backs down from honouring a well-known Nazi collaborator as part of World War I centenary memorials.
  • Trump rolls back Obama birth control law: The current US administration has repealed Obama-era legislation requiring businesses to provide insurance coverage for all forms of birth control for their employees. Businesses will now be able to opt out on religious grounds if they so choose. Read more here.
  • Mexican Christians concerned about pro-LGBT laws: Draft legislation in Mexico is prompting Christians to fear Gospel censorship. The proposals would criminalise therapies for unwanted same-sex attraction as well as any ‘threat to the dignity, integrity and security’ of LGBT people. Read more here.

  • Hezbollah has more firepower than 95% of world’s militaries: A new report has highlighted the astonishing extent to which the Lebanese terrorist group has been stockpiling weapons, with the intent of using them against Israel. Read more here.
