  • MPs call for power of prayer to be recognised: Jim Shannon (DUP) called on Parliament this week to formally acknowledge that prayer can help people. Read more here.
  • Labour suspends ‘transphobic’ members: Two Labour members who campaigned against men who identify as women being allowed to apply for women-only positions within the party, have been suspended and subjected to investigation. Read more here.
  • Ken Livingstone on Iranian TV for Holocaust Memorial Day: Suspended Labour member Ken Livingstone appeared on Iranian state television on Holocaust Memorial Day, repeating the same claim that got him suspended last year - that Hitler colluded with the Zionist movement.

Church Issues

  • Sunday School inspections back on the table: Ofsted plans to monitor out-of-school education settings were shelved in 2016 after CofE intervention – but are now back on the table. The Christian Institute are warning that this will put Sunday Schools and youth groups at risk of pressure from ‘aggressive secularism’ - read more here.

World Scene

  • Kentucky town sees revival following shooting: After a high school shooting in December that killed 2 and injured 14, a team of Rapid Response chaplains from the Billy Graham Association have seen many in the town rededicate their lives to God. Read more here.
  • ISIS calls for jihadist attacks in the West: The new propaganda video, distributed widely on social media, calls upon militants in Europe, the US and Australia, saying “it is now time to rise”. Read more here.
  • US Senate votes down pro-life bill: A bill to prevent abortion after 20 weeks was rejected this week, to the disappointment of President Trump. It was never expected to pass – only to show up the Democratic Party’s true position on the issue. Read more here.
  • Christian students knifed, beaten up in Nairobi: A high school in Nairobi has been closed indefinitely after Christian students were attacked violently by Muslim students after refusing to convert. Read more here.

Israel & Middle East

  • Israel-Lebanon tensions escalate: This week Netanyahu gave a forceful warning to Russia, and an IDF spokesman pled with the Lebanese people, that Israel will not tolerate Iran’s activity in Lebanon. Hezbollah responded with threats of annihilation. Read more here.
  • Palestinians running out of options: Still fuming from Trump’s Jerusalem declaration, Abbas has had little success persuading the EU to replace the US as a peace broker. Another ‘Day of Rage’ has been declared by the PLO for today (Friday 2 February), but experts are warning that Trump has “burst the Palestinian Arab’s bubble”. Read more here.
