  • Government allows DIY abortions: The UK Government has temporarily liberalised the abortion law to allow women to have an abortion at home during the pandemic. Also this week, a World Health Organisation representative has said that abortion should be considered an “essential service” during the pandemic.
  • Labour leadership race results due: Voting has now finished and this weekend, Jeremy Corbyn’s successor will be announced. Sir Keir Starmer is the favourite to take over the leadership. Read more here.
  • Govt grants over £17 million for Jewish protection: The Home Office will give the money to the Community Security Trust, which helps Jewish institutions combat anti-Semitism. Read more here.

  • Pandemic makes people pray more, seek God: Research suggests that people worldwide, regardless of religious belief, are being drawn to prayer by the crisis. Read more here. Nearly half of Americans see it as a 'wake-up call' from God, as a sign of coming judgment, or both, while 22% of non-believers are responding by reading the Bible and searching online for Christian teaching.   • Franklin Graham postpones UK tour: The evangelist’s ministry is seeking to resolve numerous legal disputes following venues cancelling his bookings due to pressure from LGBTQ+ activists. Read more here.

  • China floods EU with defective medical supplies: Millions of masks and Covid-19 test kits made in China are being withheld or returned as defective, as complaints mount that the country is exploiting the crisis for its own political and economic gain. Read more here.
  • Warnings of economic crisis: The world’s largest investment bank, Morgan Stanley, has warned of a ‘deep global recession’ due to the pandemic. Read more here.   • EU countries trade with Iran despite US: European countries including the UK have begun to trade with Iran using a joint trading mechanism designed to circumvent US sanctions. Read more here.
